Family Time

On Sunday, my family celebrated Father's Day at the home of my sister and her husband.

We always take a walk around the grounds after one of my sister's fabulous meals. In preparation for that tradition, I wore a casual look with flat sandals by Nine West from last year. The belt is old from Chico's. I prefer to give an illusion of a waistline with a hook belt worn low since I have a high thick waistline. The Anne Klein white jeans and the BCBG bag are old from T.J.Maxx.

The Simple Comfort red top from Covered Perfectly is three years old, and it still looks great! These tops have a perfect neckline for me. I love that I can layer them or wear them alone. I am wearing a size large because I like them to fit a little loose if I am wearing them without a jacket or vest.

Fifty, not Frumpy followers can get a 20% discount on up to two items! Use the discount code FNF20 when you check out at Covered Perfectly. There are several styles to choose from and the discount will apply on up to two items or you can take advantage of the buy 2 get 1 FREE special!

My sister lives in the midst of woods, so there are abundant deer and other wild animals. This deer came strolling by the French doors of the dining room while we were having lunch.

I took this female hummingbird's photo from the back terrace.

The back walkway leading to the terrace is lined with hydrangeas and boxwoods.

Her shade garden is always a delight to behold. Grass would not grow beneath the trees, so she created an oasis with hosta, ferns, and other shade loving plants.

Thank you for joining us on this journey through midlife and beyond. The second fifty years are truly the best!

What a great casual look Susan - red and white looks so fresh and summery!

I've followed your blog for about 3 years now and have so enjoyed your style evolution and advice. You have also helped reinforce that if I follow my own intuition, I know what looks best on me. Case in point, I was doing a closet clean up the other day and realized I don't have much to get rid of as the last year or so I have only bought what suits me, my taste and my lifestyle! Thanks to your inspiration and your blog for that. :)

What a lovely peaceful place.

Susan I appreciate your valuable advice but would love if you could do a piece for us small waisted people with pear shaped and long legs. The opposite to you! We need to learn to look as good as you

How does she have hydrangeas, lilies and hostas with the deer???

My sister says she frequently sprays a combination of dehydrated (powdered) milk with water on all her plants. It smells sour to the deer but we can't smell it.

Thanks for your comment Margo. I am just sharing my journey with you. I don't have all the answers. A blogger who looks great and has a pear shape is http://pearshapedgirl.com/

Why did you stop accepting things in return for reviews? I have noticed a lot of bloggers in the UK accept gifts but say they are not under any obligation to review the products, or write a favourable review. Sheila J, Northampton UK.

I stopped accepting items in exchange for reviews because it was becoming overwhelming with a rolling rack full of items pending and twenty or so emails a day to answer. This is just something I do for fun in hopes that I help others by sharing what I have learned. It's a labor of love. I don't want it to become like another job.

Since you were at your sister's home it would have been lovely if you had included a picture of her.

I respected my family's request not to include any photos of them.

I am new to your blog and am really enjoying it. I recently bought the book, Eat to live and am looking forward to making some changes to my diet in hopes of feeling better and just maybe loosing a little weight. Although I am a few years older than you I do not feel old and love to dress well. The picture you shared of the orange flower is a Kwansa Day lily. I have several in my yard and love them. This day lily was one of the first I began to collect almost 25 years ago.

Margo - I agree. Susan is great! I've gone thru many fashion blogs and keep coming back to hers.

Thought of another one - You Look Fab, which offers advice about body types:

I hope Susan doesn't mind my sharing these ideas. Of course they are not necessarily endorsed by her. :-)

I've been following you for a couple of years now, Susan and very much enjoy your tips. Today, I am writing to say how much I appreciate the pictures of your sister's lovely yard. I live in Tennessee as well (Middle) and have large areas of shade in my back yard. It's good to see how someone else handles that challenge. At 66, I am always looking for suggestions about how to handle figure flaws and maximize assets, so hats off to you for your assistance. Keep it coming.
