Stripes

I love the look of stripes, but rarely find a style that flatters my inverted triangle shape.

I wore this look to brunch at the Grove Park Inn. Later in the day, we attended a Chamber Music concert by The Harlem Quartet

The IC Collection line is made in the USA and sold at ShopMyFairLady.

The pants are by Lior Paris. I am wearing a Clara Sunwoo tank under the jacket. The bag is old from Express. The French Connection shoes are old from Saks Off 5th.

A Sister Day

My sweet sister and I recently spent the day together shopping and having a delicious lunch at 128 Pecan in Abingdon, Virginia.

Look! I am wearing flat shoes!

That's my fabulous friend Karen. She is the owner of Foxglove Antiques Etc. in Abingdon. I always find something special here! When I saw those bronze and marble lidded urn cachepots from across the room, I said, "Come to momma!"

There are so many beautiful objects and quite a large selection of design books in the shop.

The garden statuary behind the shop is not to be missed!

Below is a picture of my living room with the new addition of the lidded urns to the mantle. When I see something that speaks to me, there is no doubt in my mind when I buy it. Whether it is urns or that fabulous Ivanka Trump bag I am holding, I know immediately that I want it. If I have to talk myself into something, I walk away. This ensures that I am always happy with the objects I choose to bring into my life. I don't buy anything now unless it takes my breath away.

On this casual sister day, I wore jeans and a silver-gray tank and an old necklace from Chico's with an off-white blazer from Express. The crocodile-embossed leather satchel is by Ivanka Trump via Saks Off 5th. The flat shoes are by Halogen via Nordstrom.

Animal Print Heels

Friday evening is the perfect time to unwind and relax over a leisurely dinner with good company.

I am wearing a long jacket with a black tank and leggings all from Chico's. Normally I would not wear leggings with heels but these have a texture like the heavier Travelers material from a few years ago.

The Chanel inspired bag is from Express.

The dramatic cuff is now on sale at Chico's. I am offering a caution if you buy this cuff. The druzy stone is rough and can pick your clothing. I painted it with clear nail polish to smooth the rough surface a bit.

The Guess animal print and leather shoes are from T.J.Maxx. The ring is from B'Dazzled in Blowing Rock, N.C. and the octagon shape sterling silver with clear stones earrings are old.

Wear It Wednesday - Accessories

Do you ever wonder if you have made the best choice in accessories?

Starting with a white long sleeve tee and a straight leg pair of jeans I gave these pieces three different looks with jackets and accessories.

Accessories Tips

1. The red Chanel inspired jacket is classic and simple so all the items I added are also along those lines.

2. The black jacket is military inspired so I added a regal simple medallion necklace and a structured belt.  One basic tip I always follow is to wear a small pair of studs or no earrings at all if your necklace is bold.

3. The mustard color leather moto jacket is modern and dramatic so I added a simple low slung chain belt, bold modern earrings and an equally bold cuff.

When adding accessories make sure they relate to the type of clothing you are wearing. Think about the architecture of a building. Clean lines look great together but some styles are too busy and fussy to be combined with anything but a very simple look. Statement necklaces look great with a sleek solid color tunic and slacks. The same necklace combined with earrings and a ruffled shirt and long full skirt will be too much going on in the same outfit.
