The Anniversary

March 7th was our nine years of dating anniversary.

Mr. Mickey took me to dinner at our favorite restaurant in town, Gourmet and Company and then to the Johnson City Symphony performance.

The weather was still cold so I wore something warm for the long walk back to the car after the symphony performance.

I wrapped a couple of long gold and pearl necklaces around my neck Chanel style and wore my Saint John knit jacket with the famous gold buttons. The long sleeve tee is from Chico's. The tailored pants are by Ivanka Trump via Saks Off 5th. The Kenneth Cole Reaction sunglasses, Franco Sarto boots, and the black clutch are all from T.J.Maxx.

When we arrived at the restaurant we were shown to our table where these nine perfect roses and beautiful card were already placed on the table. After a toast with our favorite wines, the waiter arrived with a silver tray. On it was this gift box containing these beautiful silver earrings from Gregory Isabell

These are just a few of the reasons that Mr. Mickey is my Knight in Shining Armor.

Into The Snow Storm

We had made a commitment to attend a fundraiser on Wednesday evening so even though the snow was coming down hard we bundled up and attended the event.

I wore my warmest boiled wool vest with faux leather trim from Chico's. The black long sleeve tee is from Kohl's. The knit pants are by Tahari from Ross. The Franco Sarto low heeled boots worked nicely with the shape of the pants and served me well while walking on snow and ice.

I added a black belt with pewter details near the buckle, large silver hoops and a big silver and gold dome ring as accessories. The black trench coat over my arm is from Fabrizio Gianni.

Dressed For The Weather

Last evening we attended a surprise birthday party for a dear friend which was held at a nice restaurant.

It is raining and cold so that calls for dressing in warmer layers. I am wearing a wool Carlisle jacket which is quite a few years old. The straight leg black pants, as well as the necklace, are old from Chico's. Due to the rain I also wore my oldest pair of Nine West booties from a few years ago.

I always believed that I should not wear a turtleneck because of my round face. I bought this one online when it went on sale at Chico's recently because I have two sweater coats that should be worn with a turtleneck due to their keyhole necklines. I am so glad I did! They are so warm and I don't mind the way they look with an open jacket or a necklace.

Have you proven yourself wrong on something you didn't think you could wear but found you really liked it once you tried it on?

Layers For A Cold Morning

When the temperatures drop into the 20's it is officially cold for us here in East Tennessee.

Mr. Mickey and I are attending a surprise birthday lunch for one of his long time friends today.

I am wearing a long sleeve tee in silver gray with a low slung belt over denim jeggings from Chico's. The long light gray sweater is from T.J.Maxx. The red, black and gray tartan ruana sweater is from Foxcroft. The over the knee boots are by Vince Camuto via Belk. The fur trimmed gloves were a long ago gift from Mr. Mickey's wonderful daughter, Regina.

Shopping in Asheville

Blue skies on a winter Saturday afternoon often means a trip across the mountain to Asheville, North Carolina for Mr. Mickey and I.

We took a break from shopping in the Grove Arcade to visit Carmel's. One of our favorite treats is their homemade pimento cheese appetizer, a house-made blend of cheeses with jalapenos served with garlic crostini.

Later in the day a cup of hot chocolate was just the thing to take away the chill.

It's always fun to visit the Screendoor to look through an eclectic mix of treasures, junque and books.

No trip to the Biltmore Village is ever complete until we stop by Chico's for a peek at the sale rack. The necklace, long sleeve tee, vest and pants I am wearing today are all old from Chico's. The coat is also old from Geiger. The short boots are Ralph Lauren via T.J.Maxx last year. The black Tignanello handbag is old from SteinMart.

I hope your shopping trips have been successful!

Instant Winter!

Our temperatures suddenly dropped to 26 degrees this week.

The rapidly changing weather had me reaching for layers.

For a Friday date night dinner with friends, I wore shades of teal with gray tweed pants. The first layer is a long sleeve tee from Talbots, next is a knit sweater from Dillard's, topped by a car coat from Geiger. The gray tweed pants are from Ross. The necklace is silver and teal from Chico's. The black short boots and black and silver bag are from TJ Maxx.

These items are all old and you have likely seen them before but I have been trying to combine the pieces I have to create different looks. For example I have been wearing the long sleeve tee with jeans and a long sweater vest for a very casual look. Pairing it with a similar color shorter knit sweater and necklace with tweed pants made it more appropriate for wearing out to dinner.

I am also more mindful of the combinations and hues of color I wear now. I am very tired from a week of packing and moving and cleaning both houses as I go, so I could not have carried off the high contrast combination of sapphire and black for example. I would have "disappeared" behind the stark contrast of those colors.

I hope these tips are helpful to you and that you have a peaceful warm weekend.

Thank you for reading!
