Saturday Evening

After a long day of attending the car show and exploring the area, we dressed for another excellent dinner at the Harvest Grill located on Shelton Vineyards' grounds.

Behind me above is the stage area on the vineyard. Live music performances are held here every year.

My Prince and chariot await!

We watched the sunset over the vineyard from our table by the flower gardens.

Grouper was the evening's special.

We enjoyed another perfect evening at the Harvest Grill!

This evening, I wore a thin strap tank dress in crepe knit. The white linen biker style jacket is old. I found it on a sale rack at Stein Mart a couple of summers ago.

When we arrived, I took everything out of the bag and hung it up. After a few hours, it didn't even need steaming. The pieces interchanged with all the other items I brought perfectly. I kept the palette simple with black and white pieces, but I have never felt more confident and comfortable on a trip.

I packed several scarves but only used the silk shawl in yesterday's post due to the heat. Scarves take up no space in your luggage, but they can significantly change the look of your basics.

What a handsome, stylish man! I love the saddle shoes and would love to see them come back in some fashion for women.

I'm anxiously awaiting the pants from your line which are being shortened (long torso, the world's shortest legs). As I stated before, I have been transitioning from black to brown/cream as a base and can't wait to use the pants with some of the items I have purchased. Leaving for North Carolina for a two week vacation in September and the pants will be my go-to item for dinner outfits. So glad you found them to be easy to pack and wash. I am trying to keep the packing minimal. Have you thought of adding a brown tank or cardigan to your line?

Other pieces and colors are being considered. There will be a red three-quarter sleeve top soon!

The red three quarter sleeve would be lovely! And a cream drape cardigan would be a more universal color than the brown I suggested. So versatile for ladies like me who tend to use warmer colors. Looking forward to the red top.

Laura, those HSN pieces are also nice but not quite the same as the original line. They don't have as much detail.

I am fairly new to your blog and also follow you on Instagram and Pinterest. As I've gotten older, I've begun searching for help in choosing appropriate clothing for my age but yet clothing that makes me feel younger. I love classics and you do such an excellent job in explaining how to add a few accessories to update and change an outfit. You also have encouraged me to eat healthier and shed a few pounds😊😊
I have so enjoyed reading your blog and am taking to heart all your wonderful fashion advice. I enjoy seeing pictures of you and Mr. Mickey...what an elegant couple! I am a North Carolina girl who loves the Boone and Blowing Rock area, as well as Asheville, and particularly enjoy your blog posts from there.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful life! 😊😊

I think your blog is on the leading edge of what is happening in our society at this time, Susan. Seriously!

Clothing retailers need to pay attention to this shift. We're getting older, and wiser. Many of us see clothing as accessories to the life we live. We're not jumping on trends, and we want longer-lasting but stylish items in our wardrobes.

I was thrilled to see this month that one of the moderate-priced clothing retailers in my country has gotten on board, out of necessity. They closed their low-end teen retail stores that weren't doing well and refocused their women's stores. The sizing changed, too. They have reflected our different body shapes in their designs. The new line has just launched for fall, and many of the pieces look similar to items shown in your blog. They've gone away from highly structured items to clothing with a softer fit. Blazers are still fitted, but now they have some Lycra, for example. I can't wait to go in and check it out!

Can you show us your travel bag in a post? Great look!

S Goins, this post shows you the travel bag for weekends. It has soft sides for squishing into small spaces in a sports car. https://fiftynotfrumpy.blogspot.com/search/label/Rockports

Hi Susan,
I love your collection but due to budget concerns I have to pick and choose. I was wondering, if one could pick just one of the dresses, which strap style would you suggest...also same for the pants? You can PM me if you prefer. Thanks for all you do.
Best,
Jan Maier

Jan, the most versatile dress would be the wide strap one because you could wear it year round with or without a sweater or jacket. The pants are both great but the straight leg style is a bit dressier and the one with a slit at the ankle a bit more trendy and two inches shorter.
