On July 16, 2011, I started a Facebook page to share what I wish I had always known about nutrition and style. I was so excited when I reached one hundred followers! Today there are more than twenty-eight thousand of you.
I was a lifetime yo-yo dieter whose weight might fluctuate by as much as fifty pounds in one year. There were times when even my extended family members didn't recognize me if they hadn't seen me for a while. Reading the book "Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Furhman taught me what to eat and why.
After my weight and health issues were under control, it was time to tackle my frumpy style. That is still a work in progress, but it is fun to share what I learn with you.
To celebrate my fifth blogging anniversary, Mr. Mickey took me out to dinner last evening. I wore a new tunic by I.C. Collection over old Mesmerize pants; both are from one of my favorite places to shop, ShopMyFairLady.com.
The bag is old from Saks Off 5th. The shoes are old by Nina New York. The necklace weighs about fifteen pounds (only a slight exaggeration!), and I bought it at S.M. Bradford at Harbour Town Yacht Club on Hilton Head Island last year. The nail color is OPI "Dutch Tulips."
Even though I have several red tunics, I wanted this one because it reminds me of a mullet hairstyle, all business up front, and a party in the back.
We visited Gourmet and Company, which is our favorite restaurant in Johnson City.
My dinner was the fabulous heirloom tomato salad with grilled peaches.
Mr. Mickey had the spring garden salad with benne brittle and grilled wild salmon.
Here is what happens when I see a tiny baby praying mantis on the wall during a photoshoot and totally forget what I am supposed to be doing.
Mr. Mickey says that he no longer kills bugs because of me. Great compliment!
Love the close-ups of accessories! Great necklace!
ReplyDeleteSusan, You always look lovely in your pictures. But the first one right at the Gourmet and Company door is just lovely. Quiet, elegant posture, a particularly beautiful long line and love how you always draw that eye upwards -- this time with that wonderful necklace! Brava!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!!!! That is a gorgeous tunic and necklace.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! ♡♡♡

ReplyDeleteHi Susan.....I have read your blog a long time but never commented before. Love your hair shorter....takes off ten more years.....you look forty! I love all Creatures too and volunteer helping abused animals. Struggling with my weight but am going to try vegan. Still frumpy but trying. I am a pear with heavy legs. Hard to dress that type. Thank you for being a kind spirit.we need more in the world! Xo Mel
ReplyDeleteYou look wonderful in red! And you got your hair cut :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the 5 years. I appreciate your blog, very helpful. Keep it up please! You look good in red.
ReplyDeletePraying mantises are good. They eat the other bugs that are bad!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your blogging anniversary! You have a beautiful spirit and I appreciate your tips and suggestions so much.
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely stunning in red! I'm slowly finding my own style thanks to your blog. I like the flowing tops that are out now, but I've found my frame needs a more tailored style. It's a process for sure! Have a wonderful weekend. I also like your hair since you cut it. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Susan. I've really enjoyed your posts and updates on Facebook over the last few years when I found you. You're a great inspiration. I'm 52 and a mum of 2. A girl 11 and a boy 9. I didnt have my children until later in life but I don't feel 52 at all. It doesn't help that I want to feel comfortable or don't have time to dress better because my children keep me busy but you inspire me to look good everyday. Don't ever stop what you're doing because of negative comments. You're inspiring this Aussie gal and many others around the world.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Anne from Australia xx

ReplyDeleteSusan, you changed something about your hairstyle. Looks great!

ReplyDeleteLove your blog and your story. The red top is great! Sorry to get personal here, but what type of bra did you have on underneath it?
ReplyDeleteLOVE this whole look! You look stunning. You're already thin but this outfit slims you even more. I WANT IT! Haha. Love what you're doing. Keep it up!

ReplyDeleteSo happy to have stumbled upon your blog. You have an inspiring story to share, and I look forward to hearing more about your journey. I had to laugh at that 50 pound necklace. I have a necklace I absolutely love, but it gives me neck pain if I wear it too long:-)

You are simply glowing in these photos Susan....I love your red top and new haircut! You are such an inspiration to a lot of us, I know I've learned a lot from you.
ReplyDeleteI lost about 20 pounds last year and donated all of my "big" clothes...it's been fun recreating a new wardrobe and I keep a lot of your tips in mind whenever I buy something new.
My style is very similar to yours and I wear a lot of black, white, denim and khaki...I really want something in red so I was happy to see the one you have on today.
Congratulations on your blog anniversary, this December will be 9 years for me!
Congratulations Susan! I just wish I had found you sooner :-(
ReplyDeleteI love love that tunic. You look great-even your toes look great!

Thank you for sharing your style tips! I really liked your post on storing handbags and then seeing them in an outfit. Red is definitely working for you. -Julie
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the Blog anniversary. You are a real inspiration, not just for the stylish clothes and accessories but also for what seems to be such a positive, grateful spirit. I just bought the Fuhrman book in hopes of curing some of my "ills." Please continue with this wonderful Blog!

ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE this look. I don't wear red, but hope the tunic comes in another color because I must have it. Thank you for inspiring all of us. You have helped many of us learn to accept and enjoy this time of life. And find our own personal style. Congratulations and stay with us.
ReplyDeleteSusan, Your hair is beautiful! You don't need a hair stylist! Love it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary Susan,
ReplyDeleteI believe that you posted that you had some unkind posts this week...I just wanted to thank you....
My mother had been ill for a couple of years and passed away June 2015. I found your blog and enjoyed reading it at the end of a difficult day....this week my Dad was diagnosed with cancer so we begin another battle....so besides fashion advice, you have helped me through challenges with parents...after all the illness and change, I found comfort in reading about your life.... So I want to thank you. Happy Anniversary!
Congratulations Susan (and Mr Mickey)! I get so much inspiration from your blog. I also love that you don't harm bugs :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your five years! I sure appreciate that you share with us and really look forward to your posts. I love seeing how you dress and whqt activities you are doing. Thanks a lot! You are a great inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! I love, love, love so many of your outfits - it's the very same style of pants/tops/jewelry that I wear. And while I adore high heels and have quite a few pair I'll never part with - I've not worn them for years. It's been so long I've forgotten how to walk in them. Many times I go to buy something you model only to find it's hand wash or dry clean only. I no longer buy things that require that kind of care. But I love looking! Thanks for doing what you do!
ReplyDeleteBarbara
The bra I am wearing here is from Soma. It is the Enhanced Shape Full Coverage style. They have many styles for many different shapes. When you get fitted in the store, they are very good at helping you find the right style for your breast shape not just your body shape.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your blogiversary! Hope you and Mr. Mickey continue to have adventures and inspire us for many more years!
