Love Those Basics!

The temperatures dropped today, so I could return to my comfort zone (a jacket). This white linen biker jacket is a couple of years old. I found it on a sale rack at Stein Mart back when I tried to build up my basics.

The tank top is a couple of years old from Chico's. The caper color pants were sent to me by Fabrizio Gianni last year. The scarf is a few years old. I found it at Ross Dress For Less. The sandals are at least three years old from DSW. I bought the Alberta Di Canio bag last year on sale at T.J.Maxx.

I tell you where I get all the items I am wearing to show that you don't have to shop only in high-end stores. Just look for the best quality pieces you can afford. Always make sure they fit your body nicely, no matter what your shape. You might be able to use what you already have in your closet in a new way if you see it worn differently.

My day started at 3 AM today. I am just now getting the time to share a post with you, but I wanted to show you what I did to my hair!

I just couldn't take all that hair falling into my face all day while I was working. I am much too busy to schedule an appointment with my dear friend and stylist right now. SO... I did the unspeakable and cut my own hair in the front (not the back!).

Do you make vision boards? I am always tearing pages out of old magazines to keep something that inspires me. I saw this page recently in the InStyle magazine. Lauren Hutton is seventy-two now. I saw her walking down Broadway one evening in New York several years ago. She is stunning!

I believe you can find inspiration from people who have great style no matter what age they are. I admire some women in their twenties and thirties, and I may take a bit of what they do and make it part of my next look in an appropriate way. I hope that is what you do when you see my looks. Take what you need and use my tips however you wish. I offer it all for free and with love for my silver sisters everywhere.

Dress the body you have today. That doesn't mean you have given up on your fabulous future body. It just means you are going to look great along the way while you are reaching your goals.

  4. I too occasionally take the scissors to the front of my hair for the same reasons. Last time I couldn't find regular scissors so I used pinking shears. Couldn't tell. I use design boards for changes I want to make to my home decor collecting pictures from magazines, Pinterest, anywhere I see something that catches my eye. I love to shop quality consignment shops since they have allot of them near me. Recently found a lovely iron piece with just a touch of patina, which I love. Wish I could post a picture of it.

  12. You've done a great job with your hair, Susan.
I cut my own hair a few weeks after my mum died. I can't have made a good job of it as my daughter in law (an ex hairdresser who had to tidy up my mess the next day) made me vow never to do that again!
I too collect style ideas, previously in paper form, now on my little kindle. I have fun attempting to copy some! You, of course, are a great inspiration and source for stylish ideas.

  14. Susan, you make my day. I am from New Zealand, and your blog is the first thing I turn to when I open my I-pad.
I love the way you use your clothes in so many different combinations, proving we don't need a wardrobe full of clothes.
I am almost 70, but you are helping me to feel smart ,elegant or casual, without needing to outlay too much.
I'm loving what you do. Please keep it up.

  15. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to offer style tips to all of us over 50 years old. It seems we are forgotten by most style magazines. Your style is classic but fun and I love how you pull everything together. You inspire me to put forth more effort for my everyday look, thank you!

  18. I do love how you're wearing clothes you've had for some time and sharing where you've purchased them. Cute outfit! LOL on trimming the front of your hair - I did the same thing to my bangs this week when they kept hanging in my face. I won't trim elsewhere, but I can do fine with bangs. You did a good job. I love Laura Hutton's style! I'm a sneaker and jeans girl at heart and she does sneakers so well.

  19. I like this look Susan. I resort to a bit of a self-trim myself from time to time. Especially the bangs. Makes it easier than trying to get to the hairdresser's sometimes.

  20. You are a woman after my own heart! Such a super job on the trim...like you, I can't stand the hair in my face but my scissors of choice are those I use to thin the fur on the dog LOL! Thinning shears I think they are called. As for the Lauren Hutton cut, I love that too and think for summer, it would be a great choice. You have style that is always inspiring. Thanks for that.

  21. You brighten my day. I come here for inspiration and your positive attitude. Sometimes change comes from the outside in. When I start looking better, I feel better. That motivates me to challenge myself from the inside out, taking baby steps to better health and well-being. Thank you, as always, Susan.

  24. I make style boards and wish lists with pictures...More than fifty percent of my photos come from your blog...When I order something you have worn, I go back to the boards and notate that I now own it...I cut my hair too...If something comes up before I can get to my hairdresser, I get out the scissors...Your "new do" looks great...xoxox
