Choosing A Winter Coat

Do you have a great winter topper? It has been at least twenty years since I purchased a nice full-length winter coat.

Our East Tennessee weather is not often harsh, so I don't need to dress for sub-zero temperatures.

A stroller or some other type of jacket over layers is my usual cold-weather look. While that works most of the time, it can be rather casual.

I have been doing research for a few months to make a wise decision about this purchase.

I didn't want a bulky coat that would visually add pounds to my frame. I looked for a sleek style without a large collar, belt, memorable buttons, or other details that might date it and me. While I love black, I wanted this coat to be another color. Having one that can be dressed up or down and worn with scarves was also a priority. This coat could also be belted if I ever magically acquire a waistline.

The rest of my look includes a black vest and knit turtleneck top by Fabrizio Gianni. The reptile embossed black leggings are labeled "Jack," and I found them in a small boutique on Hilton Head Island last year. The boots are Saks Black Label from Saks Off 5th. The bag is also via Saks Off 5th. The hat and scarf are both old from T.J. Maxx.

I am confident that I can wear this coat for several years, with any type or color of attire, and to any event. It is by Cinzia Rocca via Saks Off 5th.

  1. You look so cute in the coat and hat. I am actually sad that we have not had winter this year in South Texas. The weather is gorgeous and very spring-like, I just miss wearing some of my winter clothes and I like seasons which change things up a bit. Perhaps next year, I will get to wear my coats like this. You look lovely as always.

  3. I purchased the same coat last year in a bright orange/red. Love it and receive so many compliments. I had been looking for a winter coat that was anything but black, brown, navy or grey. Instead looking for something to brighten up my winter wardrobe.

  4. Congratulations on your blog visits. I discovered your blog about 1 1/2 years ago and look forward to all your posts.
What a fabulous coat and I love the colour - grey is such a sophisticated neutral.
I so envy your climate - here in Canada that would probably be my fall coat.
My winter coat wardrobe consists of: 3 ski jackets, 3 faux furs, 1 real fur, 2 wool/cashmere coats (different lengths), 1 shearling jacket, and 1 wool jacket. And they all get worn at some point over the winter as our temperatures keep changing!
I have been looking for the perfect red in a coat for the past few years, but have yet to find one. Maybe next year.

  5. We must be thinking alike..I have been in search of a wool full length coat since the last one I bought was 4 (larger) sizes ago! I found a beautiful gray Kate Spade coat very similar to yours a few weeks ago at T.J. Maxx. It was originally $450 and I got it on clearance for $79. I was thrilled at the price and know it will last me a few winters! Love your blog; Congrats and Happy Valentines Day!
