Spending a beautiful sunny day in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, is pure bliss for us.
I wore my version of a tee with jeans and sandals.
"Personal style is the interpretation of a trend."
You may quote me.
This fabulous asymmetric hem top from Birdie James was a gift from the owner Michelle Taylor. Birdie James Authentic Chic is a new store opening this weekend at 28 Shelter Cove Lane, Suite 111, located in the Shelter Cove Towne Centre on Hilton Head Island. I am so excited to visit this store on my next trip to Hilton Head. From everything I have seen, this will be the perfect place to find upscale styles with a nod to comfortable ageless classics.
The necklace is a vintage estate piece from Finely House Couture in Blowing Rock. The Lilly Pulitzer straw clutch with gold accents is also from Finely House Couture last year. The Vince Camuto sandals were from Belk last year. The sunglasses are by Balmain from Saks Off 5th. The perfectly comfortable lightweight white jeans are by Tribal.
There are many great stores and boutiques to visit in Blowing Rock.
One of Mr. Mickey's favorite stores in the world is Kilwin's. The people in the photo below are not walking down the street... they are standing in line to buy ice cream!
The line was not nearly as long when we visited earlier in the day. At least we started inside the store!
Kilwin's is also world-famous for its many flavors of fudge, which they make right there in the window on giant marble tables.
My personal reasons for loving Blowing Rock reach all the way back to my childhood. I spent many happy hours with my beloved great-grandmother Phoebe, wandering around in her seemingly endless flower gardens. Hummingbirds and butterflies danced around us as she showed me new blossoms and explained the plants and why she planted them in the sun or the shade.
The village of Blowing Rock is surrounded by abundant gardens, winding paths, and shady lanes that beckon me to return again and again. It is a place where I can almost hear Phoebe's gentle voice telling me about the sweet, heady fragrance of the giant irises that return to the garden each spring.
You would also like Galena, IL, Susan. Lots of history, rolling hills and cute shops!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, your lovely blog today made me feel so nostalgic. My great grandmother's name is also Phoebe and she was an amazing gardener. She lived in southern California and I get those same feelings each time I return. Thank you so much for sharing your travels and memories with us. You've given me the itch to shake the dust off my boots and start traveling again. Love that blue top on you. I've never seen such a classy version of jeans and a tee. By the way, if you've never seen the Mojave in spring it's worth the trip. Joshua Tree National Park is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI grew up attending an old fashioned Methodist Campmeeting every summer. It began in 1843 and one of my ancestors was a founder. My immediate family has owned a cabin there for 66 years. It is across the country road from my daddy's home church. It is a unique place and hard to describe other than "holy ground." Many years after my first marriage ended, I met my soul mate at Campmeeting. We married under the tabernacle where the Campmeeting services are held every summer. We tore down the old cabin and built a new one, with heat and a/c! We are there every weekend as he is minister of music at the church. It has been a blessing for me to watch the seasons change with the love of my life in a place of my childhood where I spent only 10 days every summer. Thank you, Susan, for your blog. I enjoy it so much and learn new things about celebrating being over 50 (or in my case, over 60!).
ReplyDeleteWe spent part of our honeymoon in Blowing Rock in a little cabin 38 years ago. We returned many times to visit the charming town, and yes we had ice cream and fudge. We left the South nine years ago and moved to Vegas. I so enjoy your posts about your travels. Many are favorites of ours also. They seem to bring home to me. I love your fashion posts too. I look forward to your email each day. What an inspiration you are to all your readers.
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely and that navy top is fabulous on you! Would love to know the brand to see whether or not I can find it locally or on line. We love Niagara on the Lake just over the border into Canada on Lake Ontario near Buffalo. There are charming B & B's and boutique hotels galore, wineries, shops, coffee shops, COWS ice cream store (rivals Kilwin's), excellent restaurants and three theatres including one devoted to the works of George Bernard Shaw. We could spend days on end exploring. You would love it!
ReplyDeleteKelly, the top is the brand, Birdie James. They have several items under their own label.
ReplyDeleteIs there anywhere we can purchase this top online? Love your style and blog!
ReplyDeletePlease contact the store via the information on their website. It is their own brand so I don't know how else to buy it. They are super helpful, so I am sure they will be happy to answer your questions and fill your order by phone.
