When I mentioned in an earlier post that I was starting to wear flat shoes more often for daytime, I was amused at the howls of protest from some of you. I have worn heels for most of my adult life, but now, two and a half years away from my sixtieth birthday, I am starting to invest in flats because my feet recently started letting me know it's time.
I found these Enzo Angiolini® Liberty Loafers at Appleseeds. They were one of the first pairs of flats I purchased. Not all flats are created equally. These looked like just the right style for me, but I will be wearing them around the house for quite some time to break them in. They are a bit narrow where they are stitched together at the ball of the foot.
These Hush Puppies Dalby Moc Flats are super comfortable. (I used my Christmas money from my parents to buy three pairs of shoes from Macy's. Thanks, Mom and Dad!)
I also bought these Alfani Women's Allegra Step N Flex Flats from Macy's. Love them!
These Aerosoles Clean Slate wedge heels in brown are also from Macy's. I haven't worn them yet, but they feel comfortable from just trying them on.
These are Vince Camuto animal print flats from Nordstrom.
Love the flats! I have been selectively accumulating flats for about a year. I even have a few pairs that I wear with tights and skirts. My feet are much happier. :-)
ReplyDeleteI find "not quite" flats - say an inch heel or wedge to be more comfortable than total flats. Some flats have so little structure to the sole that they can hurt just as much as heels! With a low vamp flat/low heel shoes can lengthen the leg a little too. Try it!
ReplyDeleteI like flats, also. My question is which Chico jean do you recommend? I would like something that is not baggy but not a legging either.
ReplyDeleteSue Peterson... this is a great fitting comfortable jean...http://www.chicos.com/store/browse/product.jsp?productId=prod8769286&prd=So%20Lifting%20By%20Chicos%20Rinsed%20Indigo%20SlimLeg%20Jean
ReplyDeleteBeing flat-footed flats have not been very comfortable until I recently discovered Orthaheel. Bought mine through Amazon for a great price.
ReplyDeleteI've bought the "tight" brand before and find this trick works great for getting a little stretch. Put on a thick pair of socks and then use your blow dryer to "warm" up the shoes. Slip them on over the socks and wear around the house till they cool. It usually works great.
ReplyDeleteLove your flats, esp the red ones! I have 2 pairs of gold flats (soft muted gold & rose gold), with a pair of gold mocs on the way (another nice neutral). Here's to flats @ 50+!
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I'm reaching the age where I need flats, too! My husband was NOT pleased with the first few pairs I tried. My problem is I don't like girly shoes - but these you've posted are more my style and still pretty.
ReplyDeleteI also prefer heels because they make me look taller. I'm average height but a bit overweight and I think the height proportions me better. Maybe I'll try Anonymous tip about a *low* heel.
I'm with you. Flats are the way to go.
ReplyDeleteI wore out several pairs of Enzo flats during the 16 years I taught school. I just couldn't lean over students' desks all day in heels. I like the look of flats with narrow leg (not skinny leg) jeans. Heels are beautiful, but flats have their place!
ReplyDeleteOh no! Just as I found your blog, became determined to lose weight so I could wear fancy heels...you're changing to flats!! :(
ReplyDeleteNot to worry! I have many pairs of heels to wear on date nights. You will still see lots of heels on my blog.
ReplyDeleteMy shoes have to be comfortable! And I love my shoes to lace ie) oxfords. I feel like I am going to walk out of slip-ons. . I also think that shoes make an outfit, so you can imagine that I have a difficult time finding comfortable, stylish, lace-up shoes!
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh myself. I still get a kick out of the 20 and 30 somethings at work saying "Oh, I'll wear heels forever; forever!" just as I said at their age. These days, at 59, I'll take a small wedge or heel in a heartbeat -- and you know what, I don't feel the least bit sorry or deprived!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a post that generated lots of good comments. You look fab in heels, and as I've said before, I envy your ability to wear them gracefully. I like your choices and especially the Aerosoles pair with a slight wedge.
ReplyDeleteLove all of those shoes. I haven't worn heels in years. I love them, they look awesome, but they absolutely KILL my feet! Has anyone worn the Michael Kors Fulton Moc?? They look sharp and I love the medallion at the toe, but wondered if they are as comfortable as they look.

Lovely flat shoes. Great choices.
ReplyDeleteHeels look great, but we can still look fashionable AND be practical in flats for most normal occasions and every day wear.
I've tried the blow dryer trick too and was thrilled that it actually works!
Why do some women wear ugly looking flats?
