The Engagement Party!

Our dearest friends' son is getting married! The fabulous engagement party was held on the patio at the Blackthorn Club last evening.

The dress code was casual for this outdoor party, so I wore the lightest weight white jeans I own with a sheer watercolor print top over a slim-fitting cotton tank.

The top is from Chico's. The tank is by NikiBiki from the Charlemont. The perfect white lightweight jeans are from Fabrizio Gianni. The shoes are by Kenneth Cole from Dillard's.

The flowers at the Club are always spectacular!

I love my sweet friends!
Aren't they beautiful?!
With me are Mitzi, Nita, Jen, Dottie, and Rose.

And here is my sweet friend Nancy with her husband, Bryan. She is a beautiful bundle of energy that never stops. She danced all night!

Here is Mitzi, the gorgeous mother of the groom, dancing with one of his lifelong friends.

We wish Kerry and Wes a very long and happy life together!

Happy 4th!

We drove over to Asheville yesterday to shop and have lunch.

We have season passes to the Biltmore, so we had a late in the day lunch at the Bistro in Antler Hill Village.

I wore a red high/low tunic from Chico's Black Label and a pair of Platinum jeans from Chico's. The bag is by Cole Haan via T.J.Maxx. The shoes are old by Vince Camuto.

Dillard's is having a big sale right now! Their shoe department was one of our first stops.

Can you believe the enormity of these leaves?

Downtown Asheville is always a fun place to visit. On Friday evening, it is especially entertaining!

You never know what you might see around the next corner!

We literally drove through the clouds on our way home.

I hope you have a peaceful and restful 4th!

Shopping in Blowing Rock

On a recent beautiful Sunday, we took a drive up to Blowing Rock, North Carolina, to have lunch and spend the day shopping.

This is the Episcopal Church on Main Street. The grounds are always so serene.

I wore a white tank, white jeans, and a long flowing sheer vest, all from Chico's. The necklace has the same colors as the vest, and it was also from Chico's a few years ago.

I got tired of the wind whipping the vest around, so I tied it low in front.

The shoes are by Calvin Klein.

Best In Show!

When the wind blows, we give up shooting a photo, which is where we were when Mr. Mickey snapped this one last photo before going inside. I didn't know he was still shooting when I turned around while holding my hair out of my face. Totally candid shots sometimes work best.

I am at a bit of a loss when we must dress very casually for a summer event. I never wear a tank top and shorts with flip flops, which I see most often at such events. That just isn't my personality. I would not be comfortable at all.

We attended a National Car Show for the Ford Fairlane held at the MeadowView Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, TN.

This lightweight crepe blouse is very cool and comfortable, so I wore it half-tucked with ankle-length jeans, both from Chico's. The sandals are old from Vince Camuto. The woven natural material (some sort of large grass) clutch is from T.J.Maxx.  The brown and gold embossed croc belt is by Ralph Lauren.

Mr. Mickey's best friend, Bob, had one of his many antique cars on display, and it was the highest-scoring car in the show! We have been asked if we are brother and sister in the past. What do you think?

It was a fun trip down memory lane to look at all the old cars and visit friends.

Fringe Sandals

You probably already know that I collect cool shoes, so you can imagine how excited I was when I found these fringe suede sandals.

They take me back to those days when I was in seventh grade and wanted so badly to be a hippie, but, of course, my mother would have none of that.

The denim jacket is by Chadwicks of Boston. The tank and the cropped pants are from Chico's. The bag is by BCBG from T.J.Maxx. The suede sandals are by Steve Madden from Macy's.

Family Time

Sunday was Father's Day here in the US. My family gathered at the home of my sister in the afternoon to have a wonderful meal together with my Father.

For this casual time together with family, I wore a blue tunic from Chico's and Kut from the Kloth Katy Boyfriend jeans from Dillards. Both items are from last year. The sandals are by Sam Edelman.

My sister and her husband live in a beautiful wooded neighborhood about twenty minutes away. I always get to see abundant plants and wildlife when I visit them. Today was special because we saw two deer along with a tiny baby fawn which might have been born only a couple of days ago. I could only get a picture of this one before they took great leaps and escaped out of sight into the woodlands.

We were thrilled to see these mating Luna Moths above the front door of her home. Have you ever seen them? They were about the size of the palm of my hand and so very beautiful!

I hope you were able to spend time with your family this weekend.

Casual Bohemian

When I was a teenager, this was very much my signature look. However, my jeans were low rise bell bottoms. (Don't laugh!)

This beautifully embroidered linen and rayon top was sent to me by J.Jill. It is so much cooler than a knit top!

The jeans are slim ankle jeans from Chico's. The shoes are old by Anne Klein Sport via T.J.Maxx. The bracelet was a gift from my friend Lois.

This was our late lunch on this casual lazy day. This sandwich includes Rudis organic ancient grain bread with some veganaise, sprinkled with garlic powder, organic lettuce, heirloom tomato, avocado slices, balsamic vinegar, and a tiny drizzle of olive oil. The wine is Apothic Red.

While I am showing you a look that was one I wore in my youth, I was not this slim when I was sixteen. When I was a Junior in high school, I weighed about twenty pounds more than I do today. My weight was never consistent until about five years ago, when I switched to a mostly plant-based diet. I read the book "Eat To Live" by Dr. Fuhrman, which taught me what to eat and why. My weight has remained about the same since I lost more than forty pounds at that time. This is a life-long record!

Historic Day!

Mr. Mickey and I are on our way to an elaborate champagne brunch in the Inn's Dining Room at Biltmore.

We spent the whole day getting pampered in the Spa and lounging by the pool.

Below is the Library Lounge.

There is a baby grand piano at the end of the fabulous lobby before you get to the Library Lounge. We were entertained by Fred, the talented pianist, each evening.

There is a majestic panoramic view of mountains from almost every exit and window of the Inn.

The gardens were so fragrant! It was magical sitting here in the evening after dinner.

Fresh roses were on each table and on the vanity in every bath.

June 6th was the birthday of a truly great man (Mr. Mickey), but it was also the day that American Pharoah won the Triple Crown! We stood at the back of the tiny bar area so that we could share in the excitement. Did you cheer as if you had lost your mind? All of us gathered there in front of that TV certainly did!
